Intensive week (weekend workshops below)
April 24 to 27, 2011 - everyday 9:30 to 13:30
Each day will begin with a brief daily regimen of stretching and
strengthening, exploring new exercises and methods with slight
variations every day.
Core dance technique: Practicing good alignment goes a LONG way
toward the longevity of your dance. We will relate and integrate
several dance styles into this portion of class, emphasizing clean
technique, lines, angles and connections throughout.
ChoreoLab: Tools and new skills for accessing your creative self!
This portion of class will introduce techniques and ideas for creating
original, inspired choreography, for yourself or your students.
Butoh no Kokoro: Exploring the Ma- dancing our way through the
Interspace. This workshop is my personal favorite. We will dive into
the world of Ankoku Butoh, Japanese for ‘black dance’; here we will
find ourselves in the role of channel and ghost, allowing ourselves to
explore expression, freedom, and the dissolving of ego in an inspired
and safe space. This class is excellent for anyone with fear or
anxiety about dance or performance.
Egyptian Fusion: Weaving traditions together. This class explores
the contrasts and similarities between Tribal bellydance and Classical
Oriental dance. As we practice greatly varying styles and techniques,
we will create unique combos that bridge the gap between Middle East
and West.

the week we will be building on the choreography from ChoreoLab too
maximum of 20 students!!

Butt, For Every Body -
Shimmies are
one of the most exciting parts of belly dance, tribal, cabaret or oriental;
nothing makes a crowd scream like shimmies!
They can bring tons of fresh energy to choreography, improvisation, or
drum solo. This class will bring
together techniques from many different parts of the world, as well as different
eras in the history of the dance; ranging from Upper Egypt to Cairo; from
Morocco to Tunisia, all the way over to the U.S.. Please arrive ready to shake what your Mama
gave ya, and refrain from wearing any kind of jingly or noisy hip scarf or

for Gold- A Creative Approach to Being Creative, Fearlessly -
Do you ever
find it hard to make a new choreography?
You find a few songs you like, you have a few ideas and you can imagine
how you want the dance to look- kind of- but you feel stuck? You are not alone! Every choreographer can experience a dancer’s
version of writer’s block- but guess what?
There are a lot of techniques you can use to help you get past the
creative slump and keep you moving towards becoming a productive artist! This class is half lecture and half lab; we
will experiment with theatrical exercises, visualizations and story building;
trying new ways, moving dynamically and differently is the name of the
game. This class is designed with
slightly more advanced dancers in mind; however, bold beginners with good focus

Lead That Floats: The newest of the
choreos -
This brand-new
choreography explores a blend of opposite themes; artful juxtaposition of
groundedness and expansion; flying and balance.
This class is open to multiple levels of dancer, some dance experience is
